About
Courtney Durka is a London based contemporary jeweller whose work is deeply inspired by
natural forms and textures. Based in Greenwich, Courtney’s work reflects the connection she
feels to the River Thames, taking inspiration from the textures and forms found on the
foreshore.
Drawing inspiration from the flowing form of the river, Courtney transforms precious metals
into wearable pieces of art that echo the rhythm of the water, the dappling of the sunlight on
the surface and the moving currents hidden below.
Since graduating from Central Saint Martins, Courtney has developed her collection of work
utilising the lost wax casting process, amongst other traditional jewellery techniques to form
a body of work that highlighted her passion for texture and form. She focuses on slow,
intentional making that is sustainable and ethical, using recycled metals from trusted
suppliers.

About ‘A Love Letter to the Thames’
Courtney Durka’s collection A Love Letter to the Thames, is an exploration into the essence
of London’s iconic river. Often thought of as murky and grey, the Thames is a winding river
that is the heart of London and in the eyes of Courtney, a river that is really quite
magnificent.
Using precious materials and traditional techniques, Courtney seeks to elevate the Thames
and showcase the beauty seen within the ever-moving depths. Hammered texture emulates
the sunlight that dapples the flowing currents, rugged texture mimics the patterns seen in the
foreshore at dawn and twisting curving bangles reflect the flowing twists of London’s famous
landmark.
‘A Love Letter to the Thames’ is a celebration of a beautiful landmark with rich
history that has been seen by millions over centuries. The collection honours the flowing
river and offers one the opportunity to reflect on not only the river’s beauty but also the fact
that it has been a constant in London’s history, a sight that has been seen by people
centuries ago and can be seen by us today.
